Galileo
Galileo Galilei, born in Pisa in 1564, transformed science with his construction of the telescope in 1609. His observations of lunar mountains, the moons of Jupiter, phases of Venus, and sunspots challenged the traditional worldview and supported the heliocentric model. Despite resistance from authorities, Galileo established the scientific method based on observation and experimentation. This book is a tribute to his tenacity and courage, exploring how his discoveries continue to impact contemporary science and culture.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
In June 1927, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle [author of these tales] revealed his favorite Sherlock Holmes stories, selecting twelve from the forty he had written by then. Among his favorites was "The Speckled Band," known for its thrilling plot and popularity among readers. Another notable story was "The Red-Headed League," appreciated for the originality of its plot.
Additionally, Conan Doyle included "A Scandal in Bohemia," the first short story to introduce the famous detective and notable for its female interest, something uncommon in his stories.
These selections demonstrate Conan Doyle's care and thoughtfulness in choosing the stories he considered the best of his Sherlock Holmes series.
Thus, we have chosen to follow this selection for our translation and edition of this author and this classic character.
